Crown of Seed & Shadow: Moonlight and Pomegranate

Book 1 of the Crown of Seed & Shadow Duology

He has loved her from the beginning. She is only beginning to understand what that love has cost them both.

Taken from her mother’s garden and crowned Queen of the Underworld, Persephone wants only her freedom.

But Hades, lonely for centuries and dangerously patient, wants more than her presence beside him. He wants her heart—and a love she gives freely.

When Persephone finally returns to the world above, freedom isn’t what she expected. Neither is the ache of leaving Hades behind.

Now she must decide whether returning to him would mean surrendering her freedom—or finally choosing the love she never expected to want.

Hades

Her memories of the day that changed everything had never faded.

That morning, she had walked barefoot through her spring garden, fingertips brushing new blooms, her skin warmed by sunlight. She hadn’t known it would be the last day for a very long time she would feel the sun.

The thunder of horses came first.

Three great stallions, black as pitch, their manes streaming. Their eyes gleamed silver in the afternoon light.

And then she saw him. Hades.

He stood in his chariot of obsidian and silver. No reins bound his steeds; they moved as though they obeyed his thought alone.

His dark tunic fluttered like smoke around him. In the sunlight, his skin didn’t display the pallor of an Underworld shade. Instead, it had the sheen and richness of the olives harvested from her mother’s groves.

His eyes, green as a Dianthus bloom, locked onto hers.

In one instant, she thought of all the times before when he’d visited her mother’s groves. Dismounting with quiet courtesy, speaking with Demeter beneath the olive trees while Persephone watched from a distance.

She had never once felt afraid of him. That memory and the man now bearing down on her refused to reconcile into the same person she knew.

The one she thought she knew.

Then she understood from the way he looked at her, he had not come to visit her mother.

He had come for her. Persephone
